Opportunities for Students

WOMEN CAN DO PROMOTING STEM & TRADES CAREERS WEEK OF APRIL 5-9, 2021, VIRTUAL

PROJECT KITS

Every year, the Women Can Do conference gives female and gender non-conforming high school students the opportunity to learn more about careers in fields that are non-traditional to women, like STEAM and the trades. Instead of coming together in person this year, we are offering project kits to recreate the hands-on exploratory activities and skill-building that past attendees of our annual Women Can Do conference know and love!
Due to limited resources, only 100 students will receive a hands-on project kit, filled with self-directed activities focused on exploring STEM concepts and careers. The projects include building a geometric wire wreath, tin can robot and a catapult!
Please have students fill out  this short form if they are interested in receiving a project kit. It should take no more than 10 minutes to complete. All female and gender non-conforming youth in grades 9-12 are encouraged to apply!

In an effort to reach students who are from historically excluded or marginalized communities, we invite you to share this opportunity with students who identify as BIPOC, ELL students, students from all socioeconomic backgrounds, and those with fewer career exploration opportunities.

Students can sign up at the link above, or teachers/students can reach out to Caelan directly: ckeenan@vtworksforwomen.org Free & full of STEAM-based projects for teens.

We are excited to report that we are actively recruiting for the American Battlefield Trust's 2021-2022 Youth Leadership Team!

This academic-year-long program is an opportunity for students to gain invaluable skills that will set them apart as they pursue college and their future careers. All Youth Leadership Team members will:

  • Receive training in leadership, program management, lobbying, media relations, and fundraising.
  • Travel to Washington D.C., two times for a training session and Youth Lobby Day, and to our Annual Conference, where they are encouraged to network with our nation's leaders in historic preservation. All expenses paid and relevant travel guidelines respected.
  • Be responsible for a preservation, education, or visitation project in their hometown.

Our current Youth Leadership Team members are exploring an impressive range of topics. Francesca is creating a video documentary, Alex is creating an audio drama bringing the voices of the War of 1812 to life, Ashlyn is creating an interactive scavenger hunt at the Gettysburg Battlefield, and Tiffany is writing and illustrating a preservation themed children’s book.

If you know a student interested in being part of our next class, please encourage them to apply. Applications are open until April 30th, 2021.

Applicants must be aged 15-18 and be able to travel independently to participate. Please read our FAQs or contact us for more information.

Hope to hear from you soon,
